Cheap Moving Boxes, Trucks, and Other Money-Saving Hacks Revealed
Moving doesn’t have to be super expensive. The following are some tried and proven tricks that can help you save both time and money.
De-clutter
Getting rid of clutter saves you both time and money when you move and also when you unpack in your new home. Give away or sell items that you haven’t used recently and/or know you won’t need in the future.
Are there some items you need every single day? If so, pack them together and make sure they make it to your house first. Doing so will save you a lot of hassle and inconvenience.
Get Free Boxes
It’s not uncommon for stores to have empty cardboard boxes you can get for free. If stores in your area happen not to have any on hand, you can always find them on Craigslist or Freecycle.
Get Your Own Packing Supplies
If you’re working with a mover, you’ll find they charge a premium for packing supplies such as tape and bubble wrap. Always buy your own to avoid the extra charges.
Save Money on Bubble Wrap when Packing Valuables
It’s no secret that fragile items such as dishes, vases and picture frames need extra care. Thankfully, you don’t necessarily have to invest in rolls of bubble wrap to keep your valuables safe. Pack them in old newspaper and/or spare towels and sheets to protect them from damage when moving. Label the boxes as being fragile to ensure they are handled properly.
Take Photos
Do you have electronic devices that need various wires attached to them? If so, save yourself the hassle of looking for the owner’s manual and take pictures of your existing set-up before you pack it up and move. When you unpack, you’ll just need to look at the photo to see where all those wires go.
