What you are looking above is kind of an enhanced room of an apartment in Setagaya, Tokyo of Japan. This project is great designed by mihadesign on total project area of around 71.5 square meters. This site is used for a married couple complete with their four children. With just the condition of only 70 square meters for a room, it is really impossible to make a project of a common space and individual room. But the result, it could be used by the addition of two “boxes” covered by wood and blue. These boxes could become an individual place for children action.

The nr1977 and its description

Even though the room is little cramped, but it could be large visibility by the use of those boxes; wood box and blue box. On the top of boxes, it could be a place for children. Under the blue box, it is located a comfortable bed for the couple and the youngest child. On the top of the box there is a special desk for children to learn, draw or play at any time. For its wood box, it is used as a private place for the older three children only. To connect it to the living room, it has been served an accessible small stair for each box. Around these boxes everyone will find the kitchen area and storage.

“This is a renovation project of a room of an apartment for a married couple and their four children. Under the condition of approximately only 70 square meters for a room, we thought it was impossible to divide the common space and the individual rooms. Then we took off the walls of 2DK room, and make it one big room at first. Then we put two “boxes” covered by wood and blue felt in the room diagonally. On the top of the “boxes”, the ceiling height is only 1.1m; however it is enough for children to use. The ceiling height of the room is 2.4m and parents always can feel their children’s presence.
