Here is the exterior façade of House Contrast in detail. This house is perfectly designed by Key Operation Inc / Architects. It is located in Shinjuku, Tokyo of Japan by occupying total project area of around 74.92 square meters. The House Contrast is kind of a living place for a couple and their child. The existing house stands on a lot 3.7 meters wide and 17 meters deep. The challenge of building this house is how to develop a pleasant site in just a simple plot. And the result is what you are looking above. An exterior side of the house seems to be simple. The car shed is located on the ground floor to maximize the area. By vertically built, the House Contrast looks very sustainable and expressive.

The House Contrast and its brief description

The House Contrast consists of three different area; the ground floor, the first floor, and the loft at the upper level. Front part just takes two meters away from facing street. The main entrance is located on the ground floor where the car shed is situated. The kitchen and the living room are placed on the first floor and bedrooms on the upper level. Both first and second floor are served by large balcony directly overlooking to the outdoor view. The walls and ceilings are constructed well with contemporary materials.

A glance review of House Contrast based on archdaily.com

“A home for a couple and child stands on a lot 3.7 meters wide and 17 meters deep. Planning of the home focused on how to develop a pleasant layout with sufficient perspective for this slim lot. The lots to the left and right were also for sale and of similar breadth and depth. The plan assumed that spacing between the houses would be tight. Morover, the site is on a grade that rises by over 2 meters from the street facing. The ground floor where the entrance is located gradually submerges underground toward the back, where no inlets are possible. Square footprints or small lots with sufficient breadth permit distances and pathways within the plan that can create spaciousness. But for this lot, the depth of 17 meters could actually create remoteness between rooms, while the significant difference between breadth and depth might create a pinched feeling.
